Airtel has announced that it will be removing national roaming charges from April 1, 2017. The company will no longer charge subscribers for incoming calls, and there will be no premium placed on outgoing calls. Further, Airtel will no longer have any data roaming charges on its network and home data packs will apply across the country.
Gopal
Vittal, MD & CEO (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel stated, “This
marks the death of national roaming and the whole country will now be like a
local network for our customers, who will not have to think twice before making
or receiving calls or using data while traveling outside their home base.
Airtel has again set the benchmark in delivering best in class value backed by
a great network experience.”
For
international roaming, Airtel stated that while it offers special packs for the
service, there are users who fail to activate them. In order to avoid such as
situation, the company will protect these customers by automatically adjusting
their bill to a value that is equal to the daily pck for that particular
country. When the customer’s billing reaches the price of a one-day pack for
the country, they will automatically be moved to that pack. This will come into
effect from April 1, 2017. Airtel also notes that it has also reduced call
charges by up to 90% to as low as Rs. 3/min. Data charges have also been
reduced by up to 99% to Rs. 3/MB. The reduction in international call and data
charges has been made across popular roaming destinations.
